24 team double elimination bracket

A 24-team double elimination bracket has 46 games, or 47 if the grand final needs a reset. Every team plays at least twice; a team is out after its second loss. It uses a 32-slot bracket, so 8 top seeds get a bye.

Frequently asked questions

How many games are in a 24 team double elimination bracket?

46 or 47. Every team except the champion loses twice (24 × 2 − 2 = 46); if the losers-bracket winner wins the first grand final, one more game is played.

How many byes are in a 24 team bracket?

8. Brackets work in powers of two, so 24 teams go into a 32-slot bracket and the 8 empty slots become byes for the top seeds.

How many rounds are there?

5 winners-bracket rounds, 8 losers-bracket rounds, and a grand final that may need a second game.

How many games does each team play?

At least 2, at most 11 (a team that loses its first game and then wins the losers bracket and both finals).

How long will it take?

At about 40 minutes a game on 2 courts, around 16 hours; on 4 courts, around 9 hours, since later rounds wait for earlier ones.

Can I print it blank?

Yes. Choose "Blank lines" under Names on the bracket and press Print / PDF for an empty 24-team bracket to fill in by hand. The printable bracket page has every size.
